The Minecraft movie is building its actors. Jason Momoa, whom you might recognize as the guy with mountainous biceps and a waterfall of hair from Aquaman or the guy sporting mountainous biceps and a waterfall of hair from Game of Thrones, will be the main character in the Minecraft film. It first appeared in 2014, when Minecraft creator Marcus “Notch” Persson posted a tweet about its “potential existence” in an effort to avoid “leaks”. Since it was first announced, the film has been in various states of development hell (an industry term that refers to projects that have been in the dark for a number of years because of production issues).
According to The Hollywood Reporter, in addition to Momoa as the lead character, Jared Hess will sit in the director’s chair. Hess is best known for his zany comedic comedy Napoleon Dynamite but has directed a few under-the-radar films and some television as well, including two episodes of the Will Forte film The Last Man on Earth.
It’s not known what the plot of the Minecraft film will be. It’s safest to say that Minecraft will not be as dark like the other block movies. Hess is directing, and Momoa, who has some impressive comedy chops, is directing the project. Tetris is, to borrow it from director Matthew Vaughan, will be a “political Cold War thriller.”
